Amazon Inc.was founded in 1994 and is the world's largest on-line retailer. The company employs more than 43,200 people in 18 out of 50 U.S. states, and 14 international locations. It iss headquartered in the city Seattle, in the State of Washington.
In their mission statement, Amazon says it is working towards becoming: "The Earth's most customer-centric company, where people can find and discover anything they could possibly want to buy online." Virtually millions of new, and used, items are sold on Amazon.com's website, Zappos.com, Endless.com, Shopbop.com, and on its international web properties as well.
The items available for purchase include books, music, movies, sportswear , games, electronics, and much, much more. Amazon's founder, Jeff Bezos, started selling just books on Amazon.com in 1995. During the first 30 days online, customers in 50 states, and 45 countries, ordered items. At the time, he shipped packages directly from his Seattle garage. Starting in the year 2007, the company dove back into the books industry by introducing the Amazon Kindle ebook reader. There are now more than a million books, newspapers, and magazines available for purchase on the Kindle, Kindle Touch, and Kindle Fire.
